Raymond and Miriam Ehrlich Eminent Scholar Chair in Political Science
The Department of Political Science at the University of Florida is pleased to announce the Raymond and Miriam Ehrlich Eminent Scholar Chair in Political Science. We invite applications from distinguished scholars in International or Comparative Politics at the rank of Full Professor to join our faculty as early as Fall 2008. We expect that the inaugural holder of the Ehrlich Chair will:
- have established a record of distinguished scholarship in International or Comparative Politics;
- envision innovative uses of the resources of the Ehrlich Chair in the pursuit of an active research program, while helping the Department build its graduate program and national reputation as a leader in International and Comparative Politics;
- respect the diverse epistemological traditions (formal, positivist, interpretivist, and philosophical) and methodological approaches (quantitative and qualitative) currently represented in the Department, while promoting expertise in one or more of those traditions through research and graduate teaching;
- actively mentor graduate students toward successful careers in International or Comparative Politics; and
- be an active colleague in the Department, the College, and the discipline.
The Department of Political Science currently has 35 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 3 lecturers in the fields of International Relations, Comparative Politics, American Politics, Political Theory, Political Behavior, Public Policy, and Political Methodology. Political Science faculty currently serve as Directors of the Center for African Studies and the Center for European Studies, and several faculty are affiliated with the Transnational and Global Studies Center, the Center for Latin American Studies, the Center for Jewish Studies, the Center for Women’s Studies and Gender Research, and the Asian Studies Program. The Raymond and Miriam Ehrlich Eminent Scholar Chair is made possible by the generous bequest of the late Raymond Ehrlich, former Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court. Justice Ehrlich's bequest in honor of his parents, Ben and Esther Ehrlich, is being matched by the State of Florida.
