The program, which will normally require two years for completion, consists of 12 courses (36 semester hours) offered primarily by the Department of Political Science. Three additional hours must be earned through an approved internship with a public or private agency or an election campaign, and students also must pass a comprehensive written examination covering the various subjects related to political campaigning. There is no language requirement or thesis. Those who successfully complete the program will receive an M.A. in Political Science, with a certificate attesting to their specialization in the field of Political Campaigning.

Additional courses in Political Science, Journalism and Communications, or other departments may be appropriate in some instances. However, students should always consult with the Graduate Coordinator before enrolling in any class.
Apart from their formal class work, students participate in periodic workshops where they are able to network with consultants, government officials, and members of the press and discuss strategy, new developments in campaign technology, and other issues of importance.
