Division of Substantive Areas
A.The following fields are designated as Areas of Specialization:
- Electoral Behavior and Politics
- Political Participation
- Political Parties
- Political Sociology
- Political Psychology
- Religion and Politics
- Research Methodology
B. For purposes of preparing reading lists for graduate students, a "core" list in each of the above areas will be prepared by the Committee, and updated periodically. The core list for the general area of Political Behavior is defined by the syllabi for POS 6207. Additional reading lists will be defined by the candidate's examination committee, consistent with the particular areas of concentration selected by the candidate (see IV-C below).
Field Requirements
A. All students choosing Political Behavior as a field must take the graduate seminar in Political Behavior, POS 6207. This rule applies whether the student chooses Political Behavior as a major or a minor field.
B. In addition to POS 6207, all students choosing Political Behavior as a major field must complete the Research Seminar in Political Behavior, POS 6208, and three other seminars (at least one methodological and one substantive.)
C. In addition to POS 6207, all students choosing Political Behavior as a minor exam field must complete two additional seminars.
D. In addition to POS 6207, all students choosing Political Behavior as a minor non-exam field must complete one additional seminar.
