Certificate in Political Campaigning
The Department of Political Science offers a Certificate in Political Campaigning to its undergraduate majors. The certificate is designed for students who may wish to consider pursuing careers in practical politics, including campaign management, lobbying, issue advocacy, and others.To obtain an application form, either click here or pick up a hard copy from the political science office, 234 Anderson Hall.

Requirements:
Students must successfully complete 18 hours of courses, including 3 hours of an approved internship (POS 4940).
Basic Courses
In addition to the internship, at least two of the following four courses are required (minimum 6 hours):
- POS 3204 – Political Behavior
- POS 4275 – Modern Political Campaigns
- POS 4463 – Interest Groups
- POS 4443 – Political Parties and Elections
Electives
The remaining 9 hours should be chosen from the preceding list
or from the following, depending upon student interests and course
availability.
Note: Students are encouraged to choose one or both of the remaining
Basic Courses as part of their 9 elective hours.

- POS 3173 – Southern Politics
- POS 3233 – Public Opinion
- POS 4291 – Religion in Politics
- POS 4931 – Survey Research
- POS 4931 – Media and Politics
- POS 4931 – Beyond the Beltway: Politics in States, Counties, and Communities
- POS 4931 – Ethics in American Politics
- PUP 3323 – Women in Politics
Students may petition the Director of the Political Campaigning Program for permission to substitute a maximum of one (1) other course for one of those in the Electives list to complete their 9 elective hours.
